Bathroom Renovation

Bringing Light and Warmth Within

The Brief

Alex lives in a 1970s end-of-terrace house in Balbriggan.

As is common with properties of this age, the house had undergone several alterations over the years. Some had been carried out professionally, while others had not.

The bathroom was originally located at the rear of the house. However, following the construction of an extension in the early 2000s, it became an internal room in the centre of the property and was left without a window.

Alex wanted to remove the existing bath and replace it with a shower. He also wanted the entire bathroom tiled and additional lighting installed to make the windowless room feel brighter and more inviting.

Although he wanted to brighten and modernise the space, Alex was conscious that an internal bathroom could easily feel cold or clinical. He therefore asked us to incorporate warmer colours and finishes into the design.

In addition to renovating the bathroom, Alex wanted to upgrade the plumbing system serving the house.

The existing hot-water cylinder contained a significant amount of debris and was no longer performing as it should. We recommended replacing it with a stainless-steel electric hot-water cylinder and installing a new four-bar pump to provide reliable, high-pressure hot water throughout the bathrooms in the house.

Design & Planning

From concept to detailed specification

The design focused on creating a brighter and more welcoming bathroom despite the absence of natural light.

The bath was replaced with a generously sized shower, improving the practicality of the room and making better use of the available space.

Additional lighting was incorporated throughout the bathroom to eliminate dark areas and create an even, comfortable level of illumination.

Large-format tiles helped give the walls a clean and uninterrupted appearance, while timber-effect tiles were introduced to add warmth and prevent the room from feeling overly stark or clinical.

The fixtures and finishes were selected to create a modern bathroom that remained warm, comfortable and inviting.

Behind the visible finishes, the plumbing upgrades were carefully planned to improve water pressure, hot-water reliability and the overall performance of the bathrooms throughout the house.

Build & Delivery

Precision on site

The project was completed over ten working days.

Richard, our Head of Delivery, oversaw the renovation and coordinated all the trades involved. He was also available throughout the project to answer Alex’s questions and quickly resolve any minor issues that arose.

Alongside the complete bathroom renovation, the old hot-water cylinder was removed and replaced, and the new four-bar pump was installed and commissioned.

The Outcome

Bright, modern and fully upgraded bathroom

The result is a bright, modern and fully upgraded bathroom with all the amenities Alex required.

The improved lighting and carefully selected finishes make the internal room feel open and inviting, while the timber-effect tiles introduce warmth into the overall colour palette.

Behind the scenes, the upgraded hot-water system and pump provide reliable, high-pressure hot water throughout the house.

The finished bathroom combines thoughtful design, quality materials and significant practical improvements that Alex will benefit from for many years.
